Christmas Ball

Written by Laura Macri

Fancy frocks, shimmering decorations, blasting beats and one jolly mince-pie filled man can mean only one thing, yes you’ve guessed it…it’s time for another great Christmas ball!

The Christmas ball (as if you don’t already know!) is taking place this year on Friday, December 12. The grand doors of Southampton Guildhall open at 8pm and it’s a wise idea to get there early if you want to avoid the queues and trust me, queues there will be! Last year was a sell out and with only 1,300 tickets available, I have no reason to doubt that this year will be any different.

Charlotte Noble said cheerfully: “It was really exciting and nice to get all dressed up for a special occasion, looking forward to getting the party started this year!” By purchasing your £18 ticket from Student Services, you have the chance to visit Santa’s grotto (be sure to bring your Christmas wish list), get your photos professionally taken, receive an exciting free goodie bag, free glow sticks, crackers, silly hats, ice pops, sweets, enjoy the bar area and dance all night until you can no longer bear to stand up.

But don’t let that put you off those killer heels girls. When Amanda Bennett was asked if she’d be wearing them she sharply replied “Hell yeah! And I think it’s an occasion to bring out the LBD (Little Black Dress).” And for the lads, you’d better dig out your shirts and ties!

Elle Wilyman said enthusiastically: “Loved last year’s ball; really put me in the festive spirit and was a good send off for the end of term! Music was awesome, danced all night!”

This year we have Mark McCormick as our DJ, who played at the party for the Olympic medal winners so you’re in for a treat!

If you have worries about transport (I know that getting a taxi home can be a bit pricey – especially when you live out in the sticks like me) there are coach tickets available at Student Services priced at £7 each but you must buy in advance.

I’m helping to set up for the ball, along with some other students and a “little” help from the professional hall designers, so I’ll be getting a sneak peak of the fabulously decorated venue. But of course none of this would be possible without Sandra Showell, who every year puts in so much personal time and hard work in order to try to make this a special event for us and time after time she delightedly succeeds and deserves a huge thank you from us all.

Ellis Stiles said with a beam: “It will be really good to see everyone in the Christmas spirit!”  Don’t miss out; it’s a night to remember!

Are you planning to go? Did you go last year? What do you think of the ball? Do you have any advice or suggestions? Add your comments below.

yes I’m planning to go this year with resident journalists Emma Waller and Rosie Wilson!!! We shal;l rave the night away. I went last year as well and it was so much fun. I thought the snowball/frostie decorations were so festive last year, the organisers should win an award! Hope everyone has a great time and I like the festive article 🙂 xxx
