Christmas has been and gone and it’s now time to get back into the music scene.  What better way to kick off the new year of music while celebrating the best in new bands with the NME Tour.  On Thursday, February 19th the Portsmouth Pyramid Centre will be hosting the tour featuring hotly-tipped bands of the year Glasvegas, Friendly Fires, Whites Lies and Florence and the Machine.  With the White Lies debut album recently hitting the number 1 spot the gig promises to be a one of the highlights of the year.  Catch a full review of the gig in the next issue of ‘The Buzz’.

This week the calendar has been filled up with bands starting their tours and announcing their festival dates.  Get ready because this is going to be a not to be missed year for music.  Southampton Guildhall will be full of great bands within the coming months such as:

Alkaline Trio – Feburary 15th

Ray Lamontagne – Feburary 17th

Franz Ferdinand – March 10th

Pete Doherty – March 15th

Lilly Allen – March 19th

Maximo Park – May 18th

The Maccabees are set to return to Southampton on May 13th , by which time their hugely anticipated second album will be out and they’ll hopefully be on fine form ready to rock at the University.  You can download their new single ‘No Kind Words’ for free now, head on down to www.themaccabees.co.uk for details.

At the beginning of the year, BBC 6 Music ‘Sound of 2009’ hailed Little Boots to be the year’s hottest talent; so check her out and decide for yourself on April 4th as she’ll be playing at Unit in Southampton.

The Railway Inn plays host too many great artists, and this month is no different, with London’s hottest new rap artist ‘Sway’, taking to the stage on Wednesday, February 18th.  Sway’s debut album The Signature, includes the single ‘Saturday Night Hustle’ featuring ‘Lemar’.  The album also featured collaborations with US superstar ‘Akon’.  ‘The Specials’ Neville Staple will also be making an appearance at the pub on Saturday, February 28th.  The ska legend will be playing some of his own tracks and ‘The Specials’ classics.

This year’s Blissfields line up was revealed last week with Laura Marling and Mumford and Sons highlighting the talent on show.  The festival is returning to its home ‘Bradley Farm’ this year after 2008’s ambitious growth of the festival led to disappointment as it was cancelled due to a lack of funds.  It takes place from July 3rd to the 5th, tickets can be bought now from the website http://www.blissfields.co.uk .

If you’re in a band, or know of any friends in bands, get in touch, so we can do band profiles and interviews!
In next month’s issue of ‘The Buzz’ we will have our first feature length interview, with none other than Winchester’s finest Frank Turner, so check it out!
